HOW DOES A LOCK CYLINDER WORK?
On the operating side it is simple: when you insert the key into the lock, the cylinder activates the bolt which in turn activates the striker. This action opens or closes the door.
Inside, the lock cylinder consists of spring-mounted pins and counter-pins located on the stator (fixed part). A cylinder is composed of several pins, between 5 and 36. The more pins there are, the higher the safety system. A lock with 36 pins will be difficult for a burglar to hook during a break-in.
To put it simply, the lock cylinder is the part into which the key is inserted. The cylinder consists of 2 elements:
- the stator : the fixed part of the cylinder
- the rotor : the moving part receiving the key that rotates on itself in a manual movement (which operates the bolt and unlocks or locks the door)
On the budget side, the price of the lock cylinder varies between 50 euros and 200 euros depending on its complexity and the number of pins. The lock cylinder is sold with a set of keys.

HOW TO CHANGE A LOCK BARREL
It is perfectly possible to change the cylinder in case of breakage or wear without changing the lock. This is very convenient if you lose your keys for example.
This locksmith service requires skills so that the installation is perfectly adapted. Above all, it is necessary to make the right choice of model. Indeed, the cylinder must have the same characteristics as the old one (especially at the level of its length in order to avoid any hooking).

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LOCK BARREL
